Chicago is famed across the world for its fabulous pizza. Competition within the city, then, is fierce when it comes to creating outstanding pizzas. And at Vito and Nick Pizza on South Pulaski Road, they certainly know a lot about making amazing pizza.

Growing up on the South Side of Chicago, I had heard of Vito and Nick’s Pizzeria, which is in the southwest of the city. I knew it by reputation and was keen to check it out for myself. I was most definitely not disappointed!

Vito and Nick have been specializing in producing thin crust pizza for almost 90 years. Their family-owned pizzeria is one of a kind. The décor brings back fond memories of the 1980s – it feels like hanging out in your parents’ basement back in the day, with friends and family popping over for good times in a relaxed atmosphere.

Keen to share my first experience of dining chez Vito and Nick, I dropped in with three good friends. The ambiance felt comfortable at once. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and gave us time to settle in before ordering, which is always important on a first visit to a restaurant.

We ordered two large pizzas to share between the four of us, then sat back to savor the delicious aromas as we waited for our food.

As soon as it arrived, I was instantly taken by the pizza’s special glow – it shone attractively, without even a hint of grease on or under it. Generous toppings and plenty of cheese gave the pizza a luxurious feel and ensured that every mouthful was a delight. This is Chicago thin crust pizza at its very best!
